The latter part of the 20th century witnessed a biological revolution
that opened new horizons in the life sciences and
created an entirely new industry - the biotechnology industry. California's
world-class research universities have placed the state at the forefront
of this revolution. California is home to one third of the nation's
biotechnology firms and, in the last fifteen years alone, has gained
more than 60,000 new jobs (average annual salary: $75,000). The
state has more biotech jobs than all of the other states, combined.
UC Discovery Grants in Biotechnology help California
maintain its leadership position. The UC Discovery Grant's research
projects in biotechnology will help the state keep existing companies,
attract more, and create additional new, high paying jobs.
